Beautifully maintained and cherished Daimler DB18 with special coachwork by Barker & Co of Coventry
Based on the post war DB18 chassis the Daimler Special Sports has several significant modifications, most notably an overdrive gearbox, high ratio differential, hydro/mechanical brakes, alloy cylinder head and twin carburettors. This model also benefits from built in jacks, an automatic lubrication system and heater are carried over from the standard DB18.
The post war 2.5 litre, long stroke, straight six, OHV engine is capable of effortless cruising. Smooth and torquey, combined with the epicyclic ‘semi automatic’ self changing gearbox, it can be driven all day with ease.
The pre-selector transmission combined with the fluid flywheel, gives both driver and passenger an excellent smooth ride. To change gear, first select the desired gear and then simply depress the “gear-change” pedal (which is in the position of the clutch in a manual car). The ‘self changing gearbox’ with fluid flywheel has the best attributes of both the fully automatic and the manual systems.
This is an extremely comfortable drop top, with superb seating up front for 2 plus 1 more in the back and masses of luggage space (the single rear seat is removable if more luggage space is required). Highest grade leather, thick woollen carpet and a beautifully sculpted dash, make this a wonderful environment to spend time in. This Daimler is remarkably quiet (even with the hood down - when it really comes into its own) and you will find yourself looking for excuses to drive it.
Just 2 former keepers (most recent for 35 years) and complete with an extensive history folder which includes a photographic record of the extensive work undertaken over the years, this DB18 is ready to be driven away and enjoyed by it’s next custodian.
