Barn Conversions: Land Rover Defender 90 Part 1

As many of you may be aware the Car Barn has full workshop facilities in which we do many jobs, ranging from changing a bulb and servicing to full restorations. Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be detailing some of the work that has been completed to give you an idea about what we get up to!

The first ‘Barn Conversion’ we will cover is this Land Rover Defender. The owner originally came to us talk about a car we had for sale. When he saw our workshop he discussed his Defender 90, which had a lot of sentimental value to him but was looking a bit tired and could do with a refresh. While on the surface the car looked in good condition, when going into more detail we could see that it did need a lot of work.

We talked about the options and settled on a plan to return the Land Rover to as-new condition or even better, the key points being a colour change, new chassis and bulkhead and replacement of any other worn parts. When carrying out restorations we focus on the balance between originality and the safety of modern new components.

The start of the project involved stripping the car back to its component parts and getting a good feel about what can be repaired and what can be replaced.

Stay tuned for next week’s post to find out what we did next!
